Just after midnight April 1st, Blackberry put forward their answer to the iPhone and Android App stores – Blackberry App World.

When I tested it from my Blackberry Storm I could attest to the slick new interface and a definite premium spin on the apps available. Though there is the obligatory fart app, there seems to be a high quality offering of apps including one of my favourites Viigo; an app from the Associated Press featuring CTV news and the Globe & Mail; and Salesforce.

Download categories include banking, productivity, business and e-books.

Looks promising given that they are getting premium business oriented apps on board, but I am not sure they will compete with Apple in terms of breadth of the offering that being said I don’t think that is what they are aiming for.

I am hoping to see more high quality mobile apps that integrate with the online apps and though thin initally, some of the offerings such as the salesforce app are promising.

It will be interesting to see how the business customers will react and I will be reviewing several of the apps from the store in the coming weeks.

All the more reason to acquire a BOLD in the near future. Well done R.I.M.
